“Our community undermine us and focus mainly on big artists – Mrepa Ongapheli Moya”

Our Rising Star no: 186 is a Hip Hop artist from Kwabaca, Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. Sibusiso Pama (37) studied at Ingwe TVET College at Kwabaca. Mrepa Ongapheli Moya, as popularly known, told us about the struggles he faces in the music industry.

“I will forever be grateful for this opportunity, I started making music in 2016 and released a title based on my true life. I was in a deep pain at that time, I was sidelined after finding out that my father is still alive while I knew that my parents has passed away. My mother got me while she is married so now there was a fight between me and my sibling (not sharing same father) and that’s how I released that single”, he said.

Like many other artists, Mrepa is facing a lot of challenges, its hard push or promote his work as hip hop artist at his location, most of the time municipality organises only maskanda events. He finds it hard to showcase his talent, he writes nice songs but there is no money to record the songs or shoot music videos because of financial situations.

“Lack of community support is also a painful issue to us upcoming artists; they undermine us, focus mainly on famous artists, and we do not have a chance to showcase our talents. I want to see myself raising a flag for my province, Eastern Cape in Hip Hop genre. My advice for upcoming artists is to go out and meet new fans and listen to what they say about your work because your community will always look down on you”, he concluded.

Rise Africans Newspaper had a luck to listen to his wonderful songs with powerful message and can tell the world to get ready for his amazing talent.
