“I grew up in a poor family and use to sleep with an empty stomach…”

At only 23, Kabelo Mpho Aphane’s work has already gone viral and his fans love him. Growing up in a village called Makgophong in Zebediela, Limpopo Province – South Africa, the talented Newsreader, MC, Comedian, Programme Director and content creator attended his Grade 12 in 2020 at Makgwading Secondary School and passed with symbol D in 2022.

“Much appreciation for this opportunity, Instead of sitting down and complain about not finding a space at the varsity or college, I started my content in 2022 after being inspired by the late Matome Maupi – who use to host a show called “Hlokwa la Tsela” on SABC Radio station -  Thobela fm. I really liked the way he spoke fluent Sepedi and started to imitate him, suddenly my content started to trend in 2023”, said Kabelo.

His fans tease him by his famous signature “ka bokgwari le botswerere” meaning with professionalism and competence, Kabelo worked at Naka online radio station for 2 and half year, Makgalaka Radio Station and currently working as a newsreader at Radio Turf to boost his career.

“My fans laugh when they meet me on the streets, they love the way I read the news. Many people generally appreciate my work but do not know where I come from. Life was tough for me; I grew up in a poor family. I use to sleep with an empty stomach in 2022 when I was doing Matric but stayed strong till the end of the year so I can focus on my talent”, added Kabelo.

His message to aspiring content creators or someone who want to be like him is:  “your current situation does not determine your future, today you might be someone but tomorrow we might call you somebody. My big dream is to see myself reading news at SABC radio station on permanent post because I enjoy reading news,” he concluded.
