We caught up with one of the best Poet, Author and writer from Ha - Kutama, Muduluni, Venda - Limpopo Province in South Africa. Ishmael Ngwako Raphasha (32) is very passionate about writing poetry and spends much of his time reading.
A self acclaimed Christian Poet, started writing poems in 2013 after finishing Matric. “I wrote my first poem titled “Hardships” and never looked back. Luckily, I was more on social media and interacted with lots of poets, writers and authors. It happened that I meet an Evangelist Poet from Southern Maine in United States and started writing Chapbooks projects which is available via eBook.”, he said.
Ishmael’s collaboration with the late Joseph.j Breunig 3rd brought a successful project of volume 1 - 5, Chapbooks Collaboration. A project of powerful and inspirational poems. His family background and new perspective view has made him look up into his chin so to speak with self discovery and faith .
“Being a poet is great , influential and powerful but it comes with a full time crumble writing commitment , facing errors in the process of the project and struggling with publishing was very challenging because at times I couldn't afford to pay for publication package fees so I wouldn't say it was easier but then an extra effort had to be injected in order to see progress out of this career”, he added.
A talent alone is not enough, support is a key and without it, lots of our talents are going down to drains because of lack of support.
“Our community gives support but not limited support for surely survivability , I mean being supported by buying my eBook copies would make me feel very strongly supported by the community and remember not just reading community but publication community do play a major role”, he said.
Just like any author, Ishmael’s biggest dream is to own his publishing company. Last message to aspiring writers is to use pen and paper and be the voice for the voiceless
